๐ข Breaking News: People are selling images of wasted monkeys for millions of dollars. Others buy
invisible pixels saying it's "the future of art".
Welcome to the world of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), where the boundaries between financial genius
and cosmic bullshit are as blurry as the rules of a drinking game explained by a drunk person.
NFT stands for "Non-Fungible Token"
๐น Non-fungible means unique: Unlike a $10 bill that's interchangeable with another $10 bill,
an NFT is a unique piece registered on a blockchain.
๐น Token is just a fancy word for digital token.
In short: An NFT is a digital ownership certificate that says "This belongs to you" it's your
precious.
๐ "Ok, but if it's an image, can't I just right-click and download it?" Yes, like you can make
a photocopy of the Mona Lisa. But that doesn't make you the owner of the real painting. The NFT proves
you own the original.
If you've ever seen a pixel JPEG sold for $500,000, you've probably wondered: "Butโฆ WHO pays for that?!"
Well, NFT prices explode for several reasons:
โ
EXCLUSIVITY: The rarer it is, the more expensive. Like limited edition sneakers or a PS5 in
2020.
โ
THE HYPE: When everyone talks about it, prices skyrocket.
(hello Dogecoin and Shiba Inu).
โ
SPECULATORS: Many buy just hoping to resell even higher.
(Sometimes it worksโฆ often it ends badly).
โ
UTILITY: Some NFTs give access to VIP events, video games or metaverses.
No! (Wellโฆ not always).
NFTs can be much more than exorbitantly priced pixels:
๐จ Digital art โ Artists can sell their work without going through a gallery (and without a random site
stealing their work).
๐ฎ Gaming & metaverse โ In some games, you can buy skins, weapons, or even digital lands.
(Yes, in 2025, people own property on Marsโฆ but in pixels).
๐ VIP access & events โ Brands and celebrities create NFTs that give access to unique
experiences.
๐ Smart contracts โ Some NFTs allow managing copyrights or proving ownership of a real
asset.
If you thought paying for a Netflix subscription was expensive, wait until you see this:
๐ Beeple โ "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" โ 69.3 MILLION dollars for an image made of 5000 small
drawings.
๐ต Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) โ A collection of bored monkeys sometimes worth several million. (We
wonder who the real monkeys are in this story...)
๐ CryptoPunks โ Small pixelated avatars sold for up to 10 million dollars. (that's expensive per
pixel)
๐ชจ EtherRock โ A picture of a rock (yes, a rock) that sold for over 1 million dollars.
๐คก Jack Dorsey (the founder of Twitter) sold his first tweet as an NFT for 2.9 million $.
(Spoiler: the buyer is trying to resell it and nobody wants it.)
Not everything is rosy in the NFT world. Between scams, speculation and rug pulls, some projects
are more dangerous than an experienced scammer who has your grandmother on the phone:
๐ป Rug pulls โ Project creators sell NFTsโฆ then disappear with the cash. (hello to
influencers in Dubai).
๐ป Fake NFTs โ Scammers sell copies of works without the artist's consent.
๐ป NFTs that become worthless โ Many collections explodedโฆ then collapsed just as fast.
๐ป Environmental impact โ Some blockchains consume as much energy as a Chinese metallurgical factory.
(But Ethereum switched to Proof of Stake, which reduces the problem).
๐น What's great:
โ๏ธ Artists can sell their works directly even the crappy ones and earn
royalties.
โ๏ธ NFTs allow proving digital ownership of a file.
โ๏ธ Some NFTs have real utility in games and metaverses.
๐น What sucks a bit (a lot):
โ Some NFTs sell only because they're trendy.
โ Many projects are scams or speculative bubbles.
โ If the hype dies down, your โฌ10,000 JPEG may become worthless but you unlock the golden pigeon trophy!
๐ If you want to invest: Be CAREFUL. Many NFTs have a shorter lifespan than an open bag of chips.
๐ If you're an artist: It can be a real opportunity to monetize your work.
๐ If you just want to laugh: Look at the prices and ask yourself who buys pictures of rocks for 1 million
dollars.
Moral of the story: NFTs are like crypto: they can change the worldโฆ or just ruin you. ๐
๐ฌ What about you, do you think NFTs are the future or just a ridiculous trend? Tell me in the comments! Just kidding there's no comment section here because I don't give a damn about people's opinions! ๐
