It all starts in 2018. A small group of innovators, led by Beniamin Mincu, launches an ambitious project that would redefine the blockchain universe. This project is Elrond, which would later become MultiversX, with the ambition to solve the scalability, security and transaction cost problems that are, let's not lie to ourselves, one of the biggest problems for many blockchains. They often struggle to balance the three pillars. In general, they offer two of these aspects at the expense of the third, creating compromises often perceived as inevitable.
The Elrond blockchain was designed to be ultra fast and scalable. In 2020, it introduced its
proof-of-stake (PoS) with an adaptive sharding mechanism, a first in the industry, allowing it to
process thousands of transactions per second (TPS) and reduce transaction fees. In short, Elrond is
a bit like the racing car of blockchains, a platform that takes off in turbo mode.
But Elrond was just a beginning. To go beyond simple transactions, the project had to reinvent itself to enter
the Web3 era, where interoperability and dApps (decentralized applications) are the norm. And that's
how in 2022, Elrond was transformed into MultiversX, a project that encompasses not only the
eGLD crypto but also a broader vision, a true Web3 ecosystem, where everything is interconnected, a bit like
Apple in its domain.
The name change from Elrond to MultiversX isn't just a marketing matter. It's a necessary evolution
to reflect the ecosystem's expansion. What was originally a simple fast transaction blockchain
(with eGLD as native crypto) became an interconnected blockchain platform that aims to
support decentralized applications,
NFTs, games, decentralized finance (DeFi), and much more. The term "Multiverse" highlights
the idea of a parallel universe where different applications and services can coexist fluidly and
interoperably. As for the "X", it refers to an "unknown", to the constant search for new possibilities in
the Web3 world.
Maiar, which was initially the crypto wallet app for Elrond, became Xportal and thus evolved
into a Web3 services platform. It now offers a complete crypto wallet, allowing users
to manage their eGLD, exchange tokens, and interact with dApps on the blockchain.
The Xportal app
became the entry point to the MultiversX ecosystem, serving as a gateway to discover and participate in
this blockchain's universe.
I'll admit that personally I liked Maiar's interface. Simple, effective, I'd stake my crypto calmly to
level up and unlock a happy octopus (yeah I know, I'm a kid). You didn't need a GPS
to find your wallet.
Then bam, MultiversX arrives, changes everything, and here I am totally lost like a
boomer in front of an animated NFT...
But hey, we adapt! Little by little, I find my bearings, I click less randomly and I even start to
appreciate the new features. So if you're also struggling a bit, don't panic, several of us are redoing the tutorial
on loop. 😆
I'm not going to sell you a dream (nor a shitcoin), but if like me you find that MultiversX is clean,
fast and innovative, then park your digital bags next to mine.
my username on Xportal: @izno
You do what you want, right. I'm not a guru, just a guy who likes this blockchain and who hangs out
on it.
Anyway, no pressure, just an invitation. 😎
Well as I said above, at first I was lost, but now that I've found my bearings, I have to admit that xPortal has everything under the hood:
In short, everything you need to navigate this universe without too much hassle (well, once you've figured out where everything is hiding). 😎 That's for the basic interface then you have access to other portals.
xExchange is the main decentralized exchange (DEX) of the MultiversX ecosystem. Unlike
centralized platforms, xExchange allows users to exchange assets transparently, quickly and
securely, all at very low transaction fees. This DEX is directly integrated into the MultiversX
blockchain and benefits from its scalability.
In addition to basic transactions, xExchange supports liquidity pools, allowing users to provide
liquidity and receive rewards. This decentralized system is perfect for those who want to exchange
tokens autonomously, without going through third-party platforms.
xLaunchpad is a platform designed for Web3 projects seeking to raise funds and gain community
support. If you want to launch a crypto project on MultiversX, this is where it happens. Thanks to this
decentralized crowdfunding system, users can participate in ICOs (Initial Coin Offering) and support
projects they consider promising.
In addition to serving as a springboard for new projects, xLaunchpad also allows investors to have
privileged access to opportunities before their official launch. This means you can be among the first to
support a new idea and potentially benefit from a return on investment from day one.
xMoney is a digital wallet and DeFi platform developed to allow users
to manage their assets securely. This wallet not only stores eGLD, but also
interacts with decentralized applications (dApps) within the ecosystem.
But that's not all: xMoney also offers DeFi services, allowing users to participate in
loans, borrowing, asset exchanges, and much more. Thanks to the integration of the MultiversX ecosystem,
xMoney positions itself as a central tool to access all the diversity of decentralized services.
MultiversX Growth is an initiative aimed at supporting project development in the ecosystem. This
accelerator offers startups and Web3 projects resources, mentoring, and funding to help grow
their ideas. The goal is to stimulate innovation in Web3 while strengthening MultiversX's position
as a platform of choice for developers and entrepreneurs.
There's also a strategic partnerships aspect in MultiversX Growth, which strengthens collaboration
between DeFi, NFT, and other decentralized service projects.
DeFi is one of the most important segments of the ecosystem. Thanks to ultra-fast and scalable smart contracts, MultiversX enables the creation of very efficient DeFi protocols, whether for loans, exchanges, or asset management.
All this is possible thanks to the blockchain's speed and scalability, which enables almost instantaneous transactions with minimal fees.
NFTs on MultiversX have seen their popularity explode thanks to this blockchain's enormous potential to host
unique digital assets. Artists and creators can use MultiversX to create, sell and exchange
NFTs with great fluidity. The blockchain's high throughput allows creating interactive NFTs and
immersive experiences at low cost.
Platforms like Xportal (MultiversX's crypto wallet) allow
users to easily access these NFTs, whether to buy or exchange them on dedicated
marketplaces.
Another important aspect of MultiversX is its ability to forge partnerships with other Web3 projects. This
includes collaborations with partner blockchains, DeFi projects, and applications that use the
blockchain innovatively.
Cross-chain integrations allow MultiversX to connect to a range of services and projects,
thus offering its users a global ecosystem.
The ecosystem is constantly evolving, with projects like xExchange, xLaunchpad, xMoney, and
MultiversX Growth that keep enriching the user experience. In addition to this, DeFi, NFTs, and
strategic partnerships contribute to making this blockchain a major Web3 player.
Whether you're an investor, developer, creator, or crypto enthusiast, there's always something to
explore in the MultiversX universe.
